We gratefully acknowledge the outstanding achievements that Dr. Alice Koniges has made in science and academics. After graduation from Poway High, Alice earned an undergraduate degree from UCSD and then a masters degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D in applied and computational math from Princeton in 1984, the first woman to earn that degree. Since then, Dr. Koniges has held jobs in a variety of disciplines as a physicist, computer scientist and computer systems engineer. In her present role, she works as a computer scientist in a collaborative research project between the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to study quantum bits, or qubits, that form the heart of quantum computers.
